It's a hit box. Nobody should have any trouble at all making a low poly version accurate enough so the player doesn't go through parts of it or thinks that something is amiss.

I don't even work at a professional company so fuck me, but I find that creating modifications of models, skins or textures is pretty piss easy and often suits my purposes but making anything scratch results in “programmer art” style results.

It's called Zeromancer, it rocks.

It's quite a small place, that 7 story hotel is the largest building here. But we have a castle, albeit ruined, which is pretty much the only thing you can find images of on the web save for woodland, which is boring.

Surely you can make the clientside physics objects similar on all machines, even if there's randomisation to the fall, all you need to do it make sure all clients have the same seed. It's never going to be perfect unless it sends some information over but... meh. There's not really a lot of place for clientside ones as players like shitting about with scenery anyway, I was playing Doom yesturday and thought it was great punting cans down the hallway with my fists of fury, if I just looked like I was punching air that'd be totally crappy! Oh, and even id, master of the BSP, define their own visportals now.

Ok, if anyone has got Shaun of the Dead and I dare say none of you have: The audio commentary is actually worth listening to, unlike every other commentary ever. Very informative but more importantly it’s very funny and it’s proper geek humour; which is probably a bad thing in many respects but it made me laugh. They’re all friends who worked on Spaced which is choc a bloc full of sci-fi and video game references -although never being embarrassing (SotD is actually based on an episode where Tim takes lots of speed and plays resident evil for 2 days until he starts hallucinating and reciting Evil Dead lines). Anyway, they point out lots of gems from Time splitters to urbandictionary.com to star wars collectables and Asian porn, they even refer to one particular blood spray shot as “ooh, she really doesn’t know what to do with that over her face, it’s like bukkake, vampire bukkake” and call lots of people twats for charging them too much to use songs.

I watched Bullet-Proof Monk yesterday, that most definitely goes on the worst pile; but if there was a "Intolerable train-wreck of a film whose atrocious acting, storyline and awful wire work puppet fight scenes fails to even slightly start to possibly entertain you" pile it'd probably go on that instead. And it would rest on the pile as a cheap urn containing the cremated ashes of the cast, writers, director, producers, all copies of the film and the original reel.

Heh, I posted a little gimmick, but I removed it because I didn't want to detract from the awesomeness of the thread.

Just got Shaun of the Dead on DVD, it's hilarious providing you get some of the references and have watched Spaced; if you haven't then I can't see you appreciating all of it. I don't see why it's doing well in the states as Spaced hasn't aired there; it must be riding primarily on the fact it has British people in it, who talk funny.

You’re making way too much of a deal out of this, it’s a pentagram, Doom 1 had loads of the buggers, it’s a symbol associated with Hell because people used runes and symbols to worship and bring demons into the world, typically unsuccessfully. It’s hardly a serious map and it’s far too fast paced for atmosphere. What do you suggest? Player spawns and falls into a big lake of sulphur and dies? Fan-fucking-tastic. It’s quite clear the setting is a section of a town that’s been ripped out and flung into hell, the pentagram at the center does feel fitting. A stereotypical Hell maybe, but who cares? I would say "You don't know what Hell looks like anyway" but I'm worried we're going to throw this into a religious thread, which is never, ever good. And Heather aborting the unborn foetus of God, throwing it up no the floor and Claudia eating it is a little bit more controversial than a fucking star.

I admit I opened up worldcraft yesturday for the first time in 2 years but from an editing POV HL2 is better than HL and CS will bring over the gamers, there's not really a lot of point unless you have something specific in mind (a certain mod, for example, but most of them are going to be ported).

Yes, I figured it would be the crappy graphics that would turn put people off (although that is clearly the shittest picture you could find). But gameplay wise it is infallible, it's a shame the crappy graphics limited the series to being cult games. Edit: Woo, http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php3?date=2004-09-08

I guess there's no point me mentioning you can get Phantom Brave on the PS2 as well, given that it'll probably make people choose the xbox just to make sure they never, ever play it.

Looks much better Ewok. I dig the new beacon. How big is this town? I assume it's just a HUB town for the player to return to, buy items, sell spoils, talk to NPC's and whatever opposed to a action area? Don't make the mistake of making it too big, big towns get really irritating to navigate unless you're hitting around zombies or something. Any chance you could take an aerial screenshot and mark on it the areas of interest (shops, quest areas, exits, etc)?

It's not like it's a stupid thing for me to say with every other engine in existence not doing it and valve even realising videos of them making bump/normal maps. There's no need to be a twat about it. That wasn't meant as a hostile comment to anyone, I was just backing up why anyone should consider my view on the matter. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. Anyway, almost all modern engines have this increase in texture resolution, UT, UT2k4, UT3, Source, Painkiller, Max Payne, etc. It's a pretty standard visual requirement, unless you are going for a different look (dewm 3) Ok, sorry about that. I stand corrected.
