Incorrect. The most logical reasoning for this being that HL2 has no deathmatch mode at all.

He did a noclip on the map in single-player where you attempt to teleport to Eli's lab, he found gman and killed him with an array of weaponry

Having played D3 I can certainly say it doesn't look that plastic, maybe a little in places but mostly it's very solid metally looking.
