  2. Texturing tutorials are stupid because they only show one way of the 100000000 possible ways out there to create a desired effect. It's not a rarity that parts of a texture are changed/tweaked/fixed on the fly because you learn to get an eye for what works and what doesn't... nobody can teach you that in a 5-step tutorial.... All you really need to do if you want to learn texturing is mess around in PS and experiment with ways to create good looking or not so good looking textures and then adapt the way that works best for you. Feel free to post your WIPs here at Mapcore and we will try to help you if possible.

  7. Hey Hogi, didn't expect you'd sign up here. (yes, i actually know this guy in person. He's a friend of my brother ) I think you should kill the lensflare, and make the planet look a tad more ....planet-like... right now it's just like an almost metallic sphere with clouds... doesn't really look like a planet at all.. then again, I doubt your girlfriend would care. As for the first one, I think that one's fine as it is... Maybe give more definition to the waves around the poo bear~

In response to DUFFY: I think what he was trying to say was that it isn't justified to rate maps that don't rely on BSP brushes worse than those that do... the design aspect stays the same in both procedures and as long as the end result looks good nobody will care whether you spent 30 days making everything from brushes or 2 weeks making it with the level/terrain editor and modeling tools. In fact, the shorter the production time the better. I think downgrading level designers just because they don't work with brush based engines is irreverent and inappropriate. Now to put a halt to this discussion - seeing as it's not going anywhere - please refrain from heating it up more and make a constructive post in response to the original post regarding the missile silo skin. If this thread gets out of hand I'm going to have to lock it, so show some respect for eachother (-> see Mazy). Thanks.

  15. looks nice, but as mentioned before it does need stronger colors. Right now it's all a mush of the same (or similar) tones and there is nothing that it gives it some pep. More pics !!! =)

  22. stolve, aligning text to the center of a page the way you did it is a big no no in web design. the eye can't focus on one point and it takes longer to figure out where a sentence begins, which makes it more of a pain to read it. As for the rest of the site,... what skdr said.. it's dull and grey and could benefit from a little more creativity =)

  25. Agreed. I don't like the lighting at all... It makes the whole thing look too busy and too confusing cause theres light coming from everywhere but there are no light sources... A more well thought out lighting from fewer core spots would look a lot better IMO, but I've told you that before.
