  1. And this is without manual focus, just lots of trial and error
  2. Yeah, I know I'm kind of an asshole asking the government to do two whole things at once... We're got a department of health, department of education, department of homeland security, defence department, housing department, agriculture department, etc, etc. When I pay my taxes, I expect a certain level of multitasking to go on in the government. So the answer of "we can't fix health care because there are terrorists in the world" is kind of a bullshit answer. Yes, it's hard. Important work is always hard. But it's their god damned job.
  3. most popular photography thread. evr.
  4. That's only a half truth. The reason they come to America when they need specialized care is the fact that we have a more extensive network of specialists in America. Because they know they'll get a high salary in America, a lot of foreign born docotors who become specialists decide to stay in America instead of going back to countries like Canada. So it's not that Canada is trying to be a dick about people getting certain procedures done. There's just a brain drain of the talen needed. I don't support full socialization of medical care for that specific reason. I do, however, support a basic needs package to be afforded to all citizens and administered by the government. This means that everybody is afforded the ability to get yearly check ups (including costly lab work and xrays) to make sure people are staying healthy and catching diseases early. People also need to be able to get emergency room care, pregnancy care (not just birth, but the 9 months leading up to and year afterwards), and other basic services needed to maintain a healthy society. Families shouldn't have to go bankrupt to keep somebody alive or well because of an accident, disease, or condition outside of their own control. We live in the wealthiest and most medically advanced nation in the world and it's a shame youv'e still got kids in this nation that can't get bsic checkups or see a dentist.
  5. Nope, just have shadow depth.
  6. I see this debate closely mirroring the first 92 debate between George Bush and Bill Clinton. People came in saying that Bush was the more experienced debater and politicin, while Clinton was the inexperienced southerner. As it turns out, Bush looked old and out of touch while Clinton came off looking youthful and energetic. Nobody ended up remembering their policy stances because all of that was heavily scripted and neither of them went too far off the page. It was all about the visual presentation style. Cheney's only hope is to keep himself restrained and avoid making faces like Bush did last week. As long as Edward stays close to his debate prep, smiles a lot, and keeps his southern accent at an appropriate level, he'll come off as the victor.

  12. come on guys, at least toss out a good Wizard of Oz joke. I haven't heard any of those lately.
  13. Seeing as it was a fabulous weekend up here in Kansas, I took my bike out and hit trails most of the weekend. Since I've pretty much run most of them to death, I decided to drag my camera along and get some shots. All pictures taken with a Sony DSC-P92. Assuming we don't get any heavy rain this week, I'm going to hit some of the cooler parts of the trails next weekends and get some new shots.
  14. warning, you might be put in a small room with stupid high school dopplegangers and a stupid kid in a wheel chair. You will also be told to go fuck yourself when you point out bad texturing areas. pluses: all the free pizza you can eat. blowing up wheelchaired characters in front of the wheelchair kid and then complaining that there aren't any wheelchair gibs.
  15. let's see, I'm going into my 5th year of college.... I can remember weekends during high school where Mike and I would stay up all night as the latest CS update slowly downloaded on my 56k... so the answer would be too damn long.

    dvd player

you're going to need a reciever that decodes DTS in addition to a DVD player that reads it if you want to listen to any DTS track. Your best bet to get a combo system where you can pick up a DVD player, reciever, speakers, and a sub. They're usually a few hundred cheaper than buying everything together, and you know all the components will work nicely with each other. Sony and Yamaha have good entry level combo packages you might want to look into. Check out deals on the web and open box specials at retail stores for good deals.
