I'm about 3ish hours in on Xbox One...still running okay enough. No serious bugs. Definitely not as pretty as on PC or next gen, but whatever still enjoying this.
    Merry Christmas!

No denying that part either...and they aren't mutually exclusive. And while all those things are great, a lot of what is holding those things back from reaching their full potential is the fantasyland component of our political system.

Not exactly. The premise is that before there was even a United States, the colonists, then settlers before them, brought a way of magical thinking that has carried on to the present day. Cults? Check. Conspiracy theories as to why things are the way they are? Check. Assumption of settlers/colonists/Americans' divine right to commit mass genocide and slavery? Check. The communists have taken over the post WWII government? Check. Pizzagate? Check. Windmills give you cancer? Check. Moon landing was fake? Check. Coronavirus is a liberal hoax and not real it's all fake? Check. Bush was behind 911? Check. Trump actually won the 2020 election in a landslide? Check.

This whole situation reminded me of one of my favorite quotes: "Everything in moderation... including moderation."
More than half year into WFH, and the thought of going back to the office isn't exactly a pleasant one for me. Time is life's greatest currency, my time is more valuable to me than anything else in life, including money. Office life comes with a lot of negative things too, commute, spending money on lunch and coffee, a lot of distractions, a lot of meetings, office politics, etc. I just don't think a creative industry lends itself very well to the 9 to 5 formula. After a while it just starts to feel like a regular job and all the trappings of that formula starts to creep into your day to day life.
I'm loving WFH, before this I would only see my own son for a couple of hours or less per day! I mean, just the thought of going back to that makes me sad, I'd see my family a little bit before leaving in the morning, then return home around 7pm, have dinner and play with him a little bit and by 8:30pm he needs to be in bed.
At home, I can control my own hours, which requires a lot of discipline and work ethic, eating nutritious meals, going outside, exercise daily, taking breaks is just as important as working hard. It's been a rocky ride for me, I think June/July was the worst part for me, I wasn't delivery much in terms of productivity at work which made me feel guilty and really affected my well being, maybe I let the pendulum swing too much the other way and I lost momentum. Whatever happened, I found that 3/4 hours of pure focused work is often all you need before getting diminished returns, specially in long term.
So going back to that quote, I think as life slowly returns back to normal, I think we can find a middle ground because I have to admit I really miss my colleagues, I miss brainstorming ideas in organic and natural ways. Maybe we as an industry can learn to balance home / work life a little bit better. Maybe the team meets on monday morning for a weekly sync then go back to our home offices to do work. Maybe we do Friday afternoon playtests back at the office. Maybe we end the week with a beer while discussing the outcome of the playtest. Maybe departments can schedule a get together at a park or esplanade and discuss their progress. Maybe... just fucking maybe work life doesn't need to be fucking boring anymore.

Yeah that's defintiely something I've had to explain to a lot of investor types...that as potentially interesting/powerful/whatever the PS5 and XSX might be, there is a little less excitement than we'd normally expect given the initial software lineups.

With the XBox Game Pass, I haven't played this much on my PC in a long time... So, I started to love XBox too.
For now, the place that we live in kind of lends itself nicely for me to be able to play Xbox games on my PC. But, when eventually we move to a bigger place where I can have my own office, I'll just get a XBox Series X for the living room. (Even though, games might never look as good there as they could look on my PC)
Coming November, I wont be getting neither console. PS5 has no games that I want to play right away, and Xbox I can play on PC for the time being.

So....I'm a consultnat/analyst type in the space and have been for a while once I left the publisher side. I had a PS3, X360 and Wii (and a Wii-U in a box that I never opened...but thanks for sending me one, Nintendo!).
Today I have a PS4, Xbone and a Switch.  But I also have 2 kids who are now old enough to game.  Hands down Switch is the best console cause of kids and the portability and 1st party games. After that PS4 is my go to.  That said, I play Minecraft with both kids and we each use one console and play cross platform and it is glorious. I try to get a good Xbox game to play roughly every quarter but nothing really lasted long except for Titanfall 2 on Xbone which I finished and loved.  (Of course, I could have played it on PC or PS4 but I chose Xbox One™ because I dunno just did.)
Re. PS5 vs. XBSX....I prefer Playstation 1st party games and don't play enough of the Xbox 1st party stuff to really care, even with Bethesda in the mix and even with Xbox Game Pass which, let's face it, if you like the lineup and play a ton of games it is a great deal.
Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn (and coming sequel) are so good on their own it's worth buying a PS4 and/or/whatever a PS5. Plus after Halo Reach I stopped caring about Halo.

I've been working too hard for a few years now, went through some deep burnouts and such, but taking control back a bit. Putting boundaries on work, and investing in a healthier lifestyle -- I realize I don't like living in a city because I don't know what to do when I take a break from work (that is, things that don't involve spending money) and have been picking biking and exercising a bit. The appartement above mine was also not used for the last 3 years but now peeps are moving in and I have to get used to the reality of living in an appartement building (especially since I work late at night to be in sync with the US.)
Working too much did help me save money so I've been looking at houses for a few weeks but running into walls: houses that were sold in less than 24 hours or while I was on my way to visit them, and since I'm renovating my mom's house I don't quite feel like another year's worth of renovations for the next purchase. When I was starting to think I should wait this housing market rush out (the rate of people looking for homes vs those selling is crazy right now in this part of France), I ran into a cool house close to the coast that ticks all my requirements. It's like a 8 min walk to the beach and close to hiking trails. Was dubious at first because there's no cell-phone coverage at all and shittiest internet, but after poking around the town officials guaranteed optic fiber internet and 4G coverage by end of year. My offer was just accepted I got pretty lucky on it as the estimation was done before confinement so prices didn't rise, and I might be selling my flat super quickly and at a good price because there's a high demand in the area. Peeps built it themselves because the whole family worked in construction, so it's a 2nd-hand. Its layout is weird and its interior is a bit odd for the area (the owners liked the style of mountain homes, with lots of visible wood inside), and I'll tweak the decoration, but I generally really like it.
Now if only I could see my american girlfriend, we've been kept apart since February...

A lot of people heres have had some real tough stuff to deal with. So sorry for people who have lost loved ones or, say, have been in the hospital (Klein glad you are recovering from multiple things) as an example.
By comparison we have had it easy since my wife and I are both employed, but home schooling two elementary school age kids is brutally tough, even with the "improved" distance learning that started this month compared to end of last academic year in Q2.
Honestly I just come here to read about what's going on with familiar people that I've known (mostly virtually) for up to 15+ years. HOLY HELL mapcore is that old?  Where are my reading glasses? Get those teenagers off my lawn! By garrr...it's been a while....

Finished this last night. I loved it.
It was short, but that just meant they could really focus on perfecting each level, it was great! I loved how sometimes you'd be fighting alongside BT, then you'd be alone switching between timelines, then back in BT for some kick ass mech combat, then you'd be flung across the map to wall run and do some nice environment puzzles. Nothing felt padded or stretched out to get the play time up. They were just like "Here, look how cool this is, now check this awesome set piece out, oh shit let's go fight in that mech over there"
The art was stunning in places I found it hard to believe it was a Source engine game. BT was wonderfully written, I really enjoyed his replies to your comments. Story was fine, but I didn't really care I was having too much fun with the gameplay.
Now I can join everyone else who's upset there doesn't seem to be any Titanfall 3 on the way.

I'm very sorry for your grandfather @Interfearance, life is fragile.
You didn't ask me for advice or opinion, but you do indeed sound like you have a lot of anger pinned up, understandably so. Go mourn your grandfather, go be there for your family, trust me they need you. Go hug your grandmother (I'm sure she's going through a lot right now). I haven't been able to go home in nearly 2 years now, I would give anything right now to be able to hug my grandmother for just 30 seconds, she's in her 80's now and looked after me my whole childhood. We should never take family or loved ones for granted.
As for this country, I don't necessarily believe it's falling apart, it's just incredibly divided and until regular people regain their ability for listening and to have dialogue, it will never get better. So there's a lot the individual can do still, but to despair or to blame is seldom a viable way for a bright future, quite the contrary. If this year proved anything to us, is that things can always get worse, we could be in Venezuela or NK right now, yet we're sitting on our sofas, in air conditioned rooms blaming the world for everything that happens through our expensive smart phones.
Growing up, I had the fortune and opportunity of listening to chatter by a lot of old people. They talked about wars, famine, the horror's of fascist and communist governments in mid 20th century Europe and even though I didn't live through it, I'm thankful for this second hand absorption of appreciation and knowledge. My grandfather would say that as a child, he couldn't wait for Christmas because he would always get a new pair of shoes, and my mother would say that as a child she couldn't wait for Christmas because she would always get a chocolate bar. Can we even fathom that nowadays? A life where you only get a pair of shoes a year, or a generation later you're lucky if you get a candy bar per year?
Nowadays, many of our struggles is not due to too little, but due to too much. Too much technology exposure, too much information, too much politics, too much hate, too much finger pointing, too much 24 hour news cycle, too much materialism and too little time spent on things that matter or on self betterment. Many people I know haven't seen the sun in months and spend their days refreshing the news, no wonder we're all depressed.
As you think, you become. We gotta be strong and build a better tomorrow, dont wait for 25.
