sorry to hear you had a problem at the last minute. looks promising for sure. good luck on the submission to valve. it really does remind me of that area of the game when you have the car along the coast.

3d mike! Glad to see you pimping new work. As usual it's looking good. I think everyone already captured my feedback. My only comment is that I hope it has a cool audio-scape like de_survivor. Not just placement of sounds in a map, but cool sound schemes that give it a feel. I'm assuming you have to use only HL2 sounds, but hopefully there's something in the official content that makes this map really pop in the audio department. good luck in the contest!

be careful what you wish for.

maybe once we start publishing more HL2 maps we'll get even more users who never post!

ambient looping sounds not working for clients. soundscapes?
Izuno replied to poseyjmac's topic in Engine Discussion
ok this seems like a ridiculous solution. this never was a problem in HL1 engine maps. why is this a problem in source? i don't think you should have to go to all that trouble to play sounds on clients. Zaphod any input on this? -

good to hear, and not surprising. When a one company makes this kind of move to acquire a significant, but not controlling, share in another company they don't get control over already existing projects. I know the feeling is sort of "One publisher to rule them all" right now, but there never really is this kind of consolidation unless there are intrinsic market forces at work. Microsoft became a dominant player in the PC desktop OS market not just because of their aggressive business strategies, but also by the simple fact that it's much easier for consumers and businesses to use one standard operating system that pretty much everyone else uses. For video games, there is no comparable benefit to having all games be published by one corporation.

Oddly enough I think you hit on something you didn't mean to. In certain business circles it has become a practice to buy a big share of a company to artificially drive the stock up (like today) and get people to sell it off at a higher rate. This leaves many many many open shares to then quickly snatch up. The worst thing any ubi stock holder could do is sell right now. I think we'll be getting a statement from Ubisoft and Yves very soon regarding this and their strategy, especially concerning the stock holders and what they need to know about this. Yves aint going down without a fight. Hostile takeovers 101. also of note...you don't really buy 20% of a competitor unless you are planning on acquiring the whole thing one day. It's a sort of "try before you buy" type consolidiation strategy. In a competitive industry like ours it probably means EA will (1) try to buy the majority stake within a year or (2) dump it completely (3) restructure (aka dissolve) Ubi and possibly keep Ubi's brand as a "division" of EA. The next six months of the EA-Ubi relationship are critical. One thing of note, this may be EA's bid to get into "light" M-rated games like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon series. (As opposed to "heavy" M rated games like GTA, The Punisher, etc)

Klein: "But you said EA wouldn't make Ubi employees work crazy unpaid overtime hours!" Klein's new boss: "I am altering the deal...pray I don't alter it any further."

or Mojo. else try Zilla...I also think Mojo would be a good person to ask. If he's not around, Zilla for sure. Oh and Mojo said to ask Zilla, assuming Zilla Mojoed Mojo's Mojo while Mojoing Zilla, with or without Mojoness. oh...maybe Zaphod, too.

in college on my junior year "thesis" project i stayed up for 52 hours straight getting it done with my team of three. it was hell cause it was formatting word/excel docs plus doing layout, typos, etc... god that was hell.

you are right that there is not that much going on here. In fact, there is little bafoonery here, so it's an easy place to mod. The admins can moderate here, too. If you feel strongly, ask Mojo, Zilla or Mojo about it.

education never hurts. it shows can learn and that you are probably more "rounded" out than people who don't have a degree. however, that is all on paper. once you meet someone for an interview, your education or lack there of is just resume fodder. if you do go to college, for god sakes join a mod team and build your own portfolio. play games, learn the market and have a website or dvd that you can point people to with your stuff. ultimately for an artist or design position, experience >> education

technologically very nice. only wish they actually had good writing and directing...cause it's utter garbage in this one. still, this video proves you can do good stuff in the engine.
