  1. Heh, it's not actually a valve but I can see the similarities! It's actually meant to be one of those Fan type things. Which is more clear on the actual source.. I'll probably have another crack at putting some windows on, sadly though it's something I’m a little clueless at.
  2. http://www.last.fm/user/ThisIsTheClown Ignore how high No Comply and Refused are though, as I accidently left one song on repeat a hundred or so times in no comply's case.
  3. For once I think the bricks came out actually alright. Couldn't quite get the windows to look right though
  4. I'll let someone else to pick the next map, as i'm at work and don't have the time to go searching the net, for pictures of another map.
  5. as_highrise ?
  6. turned out looking more like a silo wall... Probably grime it up and add some details when i'm not so tired.
  7. My apologies sir, it was just the first suitable one I came across on Imageafter. And yeah it is a little sharp, and in general not up too much. But oh well maybe I’ll fix it up if I get a few minutes to myself at the weekend, or start a fresh which is probably a better idea.
  8. The first texture I’ve done (or anything game design related) in about a year, it’s got quite a few issues with it but was rather fun having a fiddle with texturing again
  9. Congrats! It's about time!
  10. The reason why such things as Robbie’s miraculous re-appearance can ruin a movie for people (although I have not pinpointed this the soul reason for ruining the movie or even that fact I thought the movie was ruined) Is that an ending is usually the part of the movie I will clearly remember afterwards and when such an unbelievable event such as Robbie being safe sound in Boston occurs, after you’ve seen him wander off into what is made out to be certain death, it’s as I sad before, cringe worthy and that’s how I left the cinema with that event from the final scenes in my head. I find claiming it’s stupid would be like saying that if a song was perfect except for the chorus which was un-listenable, and then to state it’s only a minor thing and shouldn’t make me think less of the song, would be ridiculous as it’s one of the major parts of that media much like an end to a film is. Also in the case of the trivial issue I raised. For me the movie had too many tiny little flaws which these added and became a larger flaw. Yes they are trivial like you said, but an attention to small details will generally improve a film quality vastly. Unless of course were talking about Commando , where it’s errors only add to masterful film it is
  11. **Spoilers Ahead** Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Just got back from seeing it and over all I enjoyed it, but there were several small things that spoilt it for me. My overall reason was the end (don’t shoot me), I didn’t dislike the end due to the aliens dying of infection I was already quite aware of this happening as I’ve listened to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds probably too much. It was the fact that the son re-appeared and all it ended happily, I jokingly said to my friend a couple of minutes before the scene, that it would be un-believably cheesy if he had actually made it to Boston and be very stereotypically bad Hollywood ending, and sadly he had re-appear. I do understand that for most films even if they’re not a happy they story have to have some sort of uplifting ending, to keep average Joe happy when the film ends and he leaves the cinema. But for me, bringing Robin back into the story alive just made me cringe. The rest of my points for not enjoying the film as much as others have done here, will probably be seen as a bit nit-picky. But I’ll go into them anyway so I don’t seem like another person just attacking the ending. One of these qualms was the part near the end where Ray and Rachel were picked up and put into the cage type part of the alien machines, it made me think “Well why aren’t the aliens vaporizing the human race now like they were before the two main characters got into immediate danger?” But then again you can’t usually continue a film when you’ve killed of your main characters. The main cheesier part of this general scene, was the fact when the Alien picked up and ate the extra everyone was happy to stand by and watch him die, but as soon as Mr. Cruise is in danger everyone clubs together and saves him, which is a little bit un-believable seeing they hadn’t batted an eye lid at poor old extra #456 was being eaten alive. Overall I felt basically there were too many little minor things of a similar nature that slightly tarnished the film for me. Other than the qualms expressed above, a couple of other things made me slightly ‘hmm’, were that some shots seemed like they were trying to hard to be seen as classic (the bodies in the water and the clothes falling down) when they weren’t actually classic. Other things that slightly spoilt it for me and not anything poor filming wise, were my own pre-conceptions about the film due to my over listening to Jeff Wayne’s War of The Worlds and looking at the accompanying booklets far too much. I’d seen illustrations of the strider type things as half organic, half machine type creatures rather than just being spaceman in machines and the illustrated idea really appealed to me. Also the fact the red weed wasn’t the red weed of mars but made of humans as again in the musical and booklet. But then I’m also aware that this is just an interpretation of the book much like the Musical and is kind of artistic freedom. Not to sound like I completely hated film and to come across as an armchair critic, there was lots of things in the film I enjoyed. I did like the initial first half of the movies pace as it didn’t get into the action to soon or too late and it also wasn’t straight away “Oh my God Alien Invasion, get the rocket launcher” it had seemingly reality in a surreal situation. I also really loved how tense at some points it was and was really quite edge of your seat type affair practically when they were in the bunker with Tim Robbins character. Overall, although I have bitched about parts of the film, it was enjoyable and not a waste of money, the film just had more flaws than my two previous cinema trips of the last month or so watching Sin City and Batman Begins.
  12. Roxy Music - Re-Make, Re-Model
  13. Watched the trailer, was hoping to see 19th century London but sadly saw 21st century America. Now if they made Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds into a film, that would be worth seeing!
  14. 20 here
  15. Does anybody know of a program that I can e.g. select an album of mp3’s which are encoded at a bit rate of 320 and easily convert them to 128? Cheers in advance
  16. I emailed Gabe but Greg Coomer replied to me
  17. Emailed Valve about Custom Content "Please try to use HL2 assets only when creating your map. This includes textures, models, etc. Maps which use non-HL2 assets will still be considered, but our judging process will favor maps which stick as closely as possible to assets in HL2." but i think i'm just gonna stick to HL2's props and textures to be on the safe side.
  18. I went for Steam Silver and it all went smoothly for me, will order any future valve products via steam without a doubt
  19. Really very cool good job
  20. @milpool: the barrels are models (prop_static - world model) ------ has anyone come across the problem that ingame their textures show up scaled really small and some sides of the brush are purple and black checked ingame but in the editor show up the correct size (512x512 texture scalled at .25)
  21. I had that too so I copied the gameinfo.txt from sourcesdk\cstrike_sample_content to where it was saying it needed to go
  22. not bad csharp but don't over use the clone brush, i can see quite a few repeats in there
  23. Long time no see Spell
  24. Stafford: A ruined castle A rather circular picture of the shire hall in the centre of town the ancient high house built int he 1500's, about 200 yards from the shire hall more things that are old, but this time in church form and a windmill that hasn't been in use for proabbly centuries yes I live in a pretty boring place and an extra from a review of stafford to back me up http://www.galactic-guide.com/articles/2R138.html
