    Diablo 3

Not trying to be a troll but how is this different than WOW? I never played Diablo II and only played WOW up to like level 50.

    Shared Space

I think it's an interesting idea but one bad accident or fatality due to negligence would quickly end the experiment. The law does need to put more faith in its citizens but I don't think you need to remove all laws to achieve that.
  3. Droid 2 I think
  4. I just played the demo too and I think the reason all the cars drive like that is because they're supposed to be faithful to the huge hulking all metal cars of 1930-1950. Unfortunately this historical accuracy doesn't really translate to good driving in a video game.

    Starcraft 2

I've played pro cs and I'd much rather watch people play RTS games like starcraft.
  6. happened to me a few times too. luckily the server history stays intact so you're not completely shit out of luck. since you haven't connected to any 1.6 servers before seems that you are
  7. Do the younger generations like that aspect of their culture or are they actively trying to change it? I actually think the lagom idea sounds pretty good. Makes me wonder what Swedish people think of Ingvar Kamprad. (again, not judging, hope it doesn't seem that way)
  8. So what happens if someone does something good or accomplishes something? Is the celebrated person expected to be super humble? I'm not saying that's not a good trait to have but I mean I get the feeling celebrities in Scandinavia have to metaphorically throw out their fan mail I'm still curious though is this attitude present today or is it more a relic of your parents generation.
  9. I was doing some random wikipedia browsing and came across this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jante_Law I know a lot of you are from Scandinavia and was curious how true it is. It says the original novel was written in 1933 so I'm guessing some things have changed? I don't think it's necessary a bad or good thing I just find it interesting. If it is true do you think it's a feature or a flaw?

    Worms Reloaded

I just remembered - gunbound. Soldat was fun though I might have to reinstall that.

    Worms Reloaded

What was the name of that asian game that was just like worms and took over this genre for a while? It was multiplayer and super customizable.
  12. Warby I think my misunderstanding is a cultural one. Most people in the US don't know that popular fairy tales started out the way you described them. I only learned about it in college and found it really interesting. It would be like if someone told you Barbie dolls were originally manufactured to be used as weapons. I could see how growing up being told fairy tales in a moral context would suck but I think it would suck even more to have parents who would do that to their children. Fairy tales make really good fiction and most good games rely on good fiction. The Assassins Creed storyline, especially the characters and architecture in 2, relied heavily on Christianity.
  13. FUCK YEAH!!! I mean that genre doesn't even have guns or a world war!! What a joke!
  14. Now that is how you wear a hat.
  15. http://www.designersnotebook.com/Design ... tabase.htm I found this yesterday and read the whole thing straight through. The articles were written between 2004-2007 but I couldn't find an existing thread with the word "twinkie" in it so hopefully this is new to at least some people.
  16. I just came back to say you should get a torrent up or something. I would seed it for a little while. It's been 15 minutes and I'm not even at 50%
  17. I was just thinking about firearms a couple days ago. One of my favorite HL mods. Will check it out

    Breaking Bad

I got the impression Breaking Bad was AMC's answer to the success of Weeds on Showtime. I didn't really care for weeds so I figured I would skip the basic cable knockoff. Maybe one day.
  19. I thought Zodiac was his best film. Kinda weird that he would direct this. It looks like Pirates of Silicon Valley meets Good Will Hunting. Most boring film I ever watched was probably The Good Shepherd. It might have been good but I just couldn't stay awake. Considering what a flop Choke was I doubt that will ever happen.

    iPhone 4

Many of you probably saw this already but apple put up a couple pages addressing the antenna thing http://www.apple.com/antenna/ http://www.apple.com/antenna/testing-lab.html
  21. I hear those sensory deprivation chambers actually do work even though they sound really stupid. What I REALLY want though is one of those personal swedish indoor/outdoor saunas. I used one a few months ago and I could live in that thing. It's the climate version of what brown noise does to my brain. If I could get away with listening to my drugs instead of paying for and becoming addicted to them I'd be there in a second.
  22. ROFL I listened to these about a year ago. Originally I was looking for white noise audio files and ended up on some forum with a huge thread about "audio drugs." It was a huge torrent file...over 10GB of files named shit like LSD, cocaine, marijuana, etc. Long story short they're noise and don't do anything but give you a headache. You know what does work though? This: http://simplynoise.com/ I fall asleep to the brown noise almost every night. I have a bunch of rain/thunder/ocean MP3s too.

    death?

I take it none of you have read or are interested in the authors that I listed? Most of them address the stuff you're all talking about without the hippy-dippy "we are all starstuff" conclusions even if they are technically correct (thanks Carl Sagan). There's no right or wrong answer but there are better paths of inquiry for the questions you're asking. I disagree with the belief that death is analogous to life before birth. I think we have a tendency to romanticize the universe in a way where everything must be zero-sum from electrons to planets. Being human is an insurmountable handicap that leads us believe in a world defined by our experience and experiments. You might say "well, we may not be able to know everything but we have the ability to know SOME things, we owe it to the universe as conscious creatures to explore and create to the best of our abilities" but that's a conversation for religion vs science not death. What happens when you die is probably the most important and least important question at the same time.

That chair does look amazing. For the record Aeron chairs and other ergonomic chairs are way overrated. They may look cool and improve your posture but they're far from my definition of comfortable.

    death?

I think the approach you're taking can only lead to frustration and anxiety. The argument you're making puts too much weight on your knowledge of what existence is. The language we think and form our questions in is too weak for the world we experience. It's a moot point because we wouldn't have civilization without language but it's important to keep in mind that defining existence is akin to trying to cut down an oak tree with a foam pool noodle. We all lay a foundation of assumptions before asking important questions. Questioning the assumptions will give you better results than answering your own questions.
