Thrik reacted to gtamike_TSGK in (Halloween Map!)
(Halloween Map!)
This is a scary church map made for HL2DM made for Deathmatch gameplay.
The map will also work for HL2ep2 and Gmod if you just want to look around. (Build Time 10 months in total)
Map Download Link
http://gamebanana.co...2dm/maps/169880
Install
The map .bsp file goes here after you extract with winrar.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\Your-Steam-Name-Here\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\maps
The map is out of BETA Stage and has been heavily updated in all areas.
(Lighting, effects, textures, lots of details, more scary, improved brush work, better optimized and the list goes on)
There's a few things in the map that will try to scare you.
Keep an eye out for secrets/hidden things as I added lots.
Let me know what you think.

Thrik reacted to Hollow in WIP in WIP, post your level screenshots!
A lot of the textures are placeholder for now, and I'm likely to replace things like windows and trims with custom models.
That is actually just a small section I cordoned compiled, the full layout is complete and has been tested to death (but in dev textures form) and I'm going through polishing each area up
An example of bombsite A;
I actually tried to make the whole map coherent in terms of height and space, the whole map slopes down from T spawn to CT. Maybe that just isn't apparent in those two screenshots.
I'll keep in mind your thoughts about the architecture not being realistic (though I did base a lot on reference photos), as it's something I'll tweak progressively down the line!

Thrik got a reaction from FrieChamp in Mapcore CSGO Server
We did one donation drive roughly a year ago which was designed to fund the site for a year, which thus far has gone into the new software and hosting costs (and is more or less depleted at this point). Prior to that it just came out my pocket. This seemed to work really well rather than just having a permanent donation button up and the donations received have been invaluable.
It is getting towards being time for another donation drive around the beginning of 2013, as while I've never resented forking out for MapCore it obviously takes the pressure off significantly and makes it easier to justify investing my time and money — hence all the changes this year! Whether or not there'd be spare for a game server too I don't know, but if anyone wants to donate in the form of a server that's also awesome and I'll be happy to ensure it's advertised well.
Seems there's a lot of interest in CS:GO and mapping or it right now, so it'd be a sensible choice for playtesting alone.

Thrik reacted to penE in The random model thread!
haha, yeah it's still very blocky atm, just more of a texture test, to see how they work in the engine. Actually it would be kinda fun to see how an all normal mapped, 2048² res textures minecraft could look like.
@Jenno:
yeah, I've already tried to work on that a little, so thats how the planks look like atm:
Still no strong highlights and shadows on the edges tho, just some more shading. Maybe I'll get back to that (and the other textures) once I got better in doing that kind of a style.

Thrik reacted to Froyok in The froyok's tech store
Hi guys !
I'm a technical guy so here is my stuff !
Since a few month I do a lot of thing to enhance my workflow when I work on my 3D work. I have started to share some of them and I believe it will interest some of you here.
I love to work in Maya, that's why I try to bring all the good ideas I met everywhere in it. So what can I currently propose ?
(I'm open to any request, suggestions and feedbacks. I have a retopo script currently in development too. You can see it in action here : Video on youtube (at 3:25)
It is not yet available however.)
------------------------------------------
-froTools 3
It's a simple docked window to get access to the most used tools of Maya when you are modeling something. It has also a lot of new functions to speed up/make easier some tasks.
I have a lot of friends who use it now and all of them says that this script have increased the speed of their work. I myself can't work without it now.
Example of features :
-Automatic obj/fbx exporter (with center to grid)
-Interactive bevel
-New shortcuts (quicker extrude, snap and weld vertex)
-Quick UV translation, scale and rotations
-Memory selector
Download : https://dl.dropbox.c...froTools314.zip
------------------------------------------
-froXnormal
This script is an automated batch fro xNormal. The big advantage is that you don't have to launch xNormal to do that, the script do it for you. So you can work directly from Maya ! The script support the export of your low poly, high poly and a blocker mesh. You can of course tell to the script to use an external file as you high-poly (from example is you use a very big mesh from zBrush).
Download : http://www.froyok.fr/maya/frox_0-5.zip
------------------------------------------
On my spare time I also do some game's breakdown. Currently I have done :
-Shadow of the colossus
-Batman : Arkham City

Thrik reacted to Psy in Mapcore CSGO Server
Should work now. There was an update since I last posted so I just needed to patch the server.
As I said, I was thinking we could have one Tuesday evening. It would be ideal if there could be a thread for each playtest session including maps to be played and a download link with all the maps zipped together along with Steam announcements and maybe Twitter announcements.
It's up to Thrik really.

Thrik reacted to Puddy in Designed for Danger - Portal 2 Campaign
ahmahgadd you guys... it's finally done!!! This shit started out with humble beginnings in January... and now it's finally here!!! gnah!
focus has always been mainly on gameplay, so some of you art guys might be a bit disappointed still, you shouldn't need to gouge your eyes out! I look forward to hearing what you guys think! I'm going to be busy with a secret project the coming two weeks but after that my goal is to steadily iterate and patch the campaign!

Thrik reacted to PogoP in Favourite video game music!
Here are a few tracks that I really like, in no particular order.
<-- This is probably my favourite soundtrack of all time. That's right, out of all of the time, THIS IS THE ONE.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv1j1GzGO2w <-- Evokes some weeeeird nostalgic feelings for me. Played WoW when I was in my early teens and I can remember playing through Ashenvale with my cousin and my brother. Good times.
<-- Again, weird nostalgic memories. This is the game I played the most when I was growing up, and I didn't find out until much later that this was composed by Jeremy Soule (composer of the Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim soundtracks).

My favouritest game of all. I still find myself playing it every now and again.

Thrik reacted to Pericolos0 in procedural FPS
lol thanks guys, cant wait to get your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Skjalg: thanks . If you can figure out a way to bake out lighting superfast (which still affects normal maps on dynamic objects), or some way to get waaaay cheaper dynamic shadows, that would be awesome .
The realtime lighting is the biggest hit on performance right now by far.. I mean it still runs super smooth on my 3 year old budget pc, but I still want the game to be cheaper to run . I'm only getting 20 fps on my girlfriends really crappy laptop, and if I can get it to run smooth on that, it will run smooth on anything .

I need to get those extended LOTR blu-rays. It's gotta have been over a year since my last LOTR sessions so I think I'm due another viewing. From the trailers it looks like it's going to be great. Dare I say it might even be better

Thrik reacted to Psy in Mapcore CSGO Server
As I'm developing a CSGO map, don't like waiting for playtests and see a couple of other people developing maps here, I thought: Should I buy a cheap CSGO server for Mapcore?
It probably wouldn't see that much use but it would be nice to have some more regular playtest sessions and just a place where we can play every week or so.
Thoughts?

Looks really good!
Kind of brings to mind though. That was so sad, I'm sure this will be a great success though based on its licenses and backing.

Hey guys, haven't been around in a while Really like the new site and forum.
I'm no longer at UTV True Games, or KingsIsle Entertainment. Taking a break, working at home for a bit freelancing, currently working with U4iA Games on Offensive Combat. Its been nice to finally spend time working out everyday, loose my fat gut that has plagued me for so many years.
