Thrik reacted to ElectroSheep in Spas12 Shotgun
Ok, it's time to finish this one, after a looooot of hours spent on it I learnt a lot of things... It's my first one and I will probably make another weapon in the future... maybe some things to make it better but NOW, I'm done !
It's about 8000 tris. The pump and the shell system can be rigged for animation but that's all. Texture is about a diffuse, normal and specular map (with gloss in alpha) 2048 x 2048. Can be used for a fps I guess ^^

I hated that map! But also loved it. But mostly hated it. I wasn't very good at Mario Kart battle mode

Thrik reacted to Kedhrin in [CE3 \ Nexuiz] Butt Fart
So yesterday while i was celebrating the new laws in Colorado... *cough* i decided to also make a super fast map to throw out to our community in support of our soon to drop 32 player support and deathmatch...
I chose to be a lame guy and remake Block Fort from Mario Kart 64... i tried to be as faithful as i could to the original dated look while squeezing in a bit of "sort of new"... Really i wanted a map that runs blazingly fast for this 32 player mode (if youre looking at the polycount in the top right, thats from the pickups which are scaled back in video settings).................and i was lazy.
Anyways, intentionally doing silly things like having a large, untextured brick texture wall, square everything, blah blah blah, let me do some neat things with materials at least. Of course, with anything that has high amounts of specularity, you really gotta see it in motion!
map was made with 18 textures (6 texture sets of Diffuse/Normal/HeightMap for Parallax Occlusion Mapping).
Once our Direct X 11 version drops this week i'll enable mesh tesselation on everything too.
Butt Fart... get it? Block Fortress? I took the B... and the F... and you know.... you get it.
will be released on Steam Workshop once the patch hits. Nothing like making and releasing a crappy map in one day

Microsoft would freak out and immediately try to accommodate Valve, to make them look like assholes if they didn't adapt it to windows

Yeah I'm gonna suffer through it just because you praise it so highly

Thrik got a reaction from Skjalg in What have you watched recently?
Haha, yeah it does Sklalg. The first season is particularly formulaic because each episode is essentially a standalone story with a weak allusion to some wider conspiracy we're prickteased about, pretty much the same as the X-Files. In a way this is good as it introduces a premise for what comes later, but it's also terrible because it kills peoples' interest in the series stone dead.
What makes Fringe so good IMO is the fact that it actually delivers on the crazy world-changing shit that most series hint at but never actually let happen — and then the show continues in the aftermath. The writers admitted they played it safe with season one because they weren't sure they'd get the further seasons needed to properly introduce their arc and bring it to its fairly epic proportions, so I guess that's why the first one is relatively sucky.
I dunno, not saying you'll love it as much as me, but what I will say is that I've not come across many people who've stuck with it and not grown to think it's one of the best series ever, and there's a reason why it's survived for five seasons.

Thrik got a reaction from Skjalg in What have you watched recently?
Started watching the last season of Fringe, which like Lost was planned to be the final and conclusive season. This really is a great show if you can get through the lack of momentum in the first series, after which it breaks into an increasingly epic arc that escalates to apocalyptic proportions and manages to avoid becoming the dragged-out mess than Lost unfortunately devolved into. Highly recommend watching from the beginning to any sci-fi (horror) fan.

Thrik reacted to Insane in Refinery - Natural Selection 2
It's been ages since I've posted anything here, but now that NS2 is out, I can put this up. Refinery is a large, fixed-spawn NS2 map set in a (surprise) metal refining complex. It also includes some fantastic work from dux and PogoP.

Thrik reacted to JeanPaul in Untitled project
So I have had this concept for a game in my head for quite some time now. Having the time recently, I decided to get the concept out real early and test to see how it works. I dont know what or where this will turn into but I figured making it in black mesa would be a cool start just to get some concepts out. I mean worst case I could just turn it into a map pack or something way down the road, right?
The fundamental concept:
Half Life level layouts with Painkiller gameplay.
-Half life revolutionized what a first person shooter map could be with insane new layout ideas, puzzles and nonlinearity.
-Painkiller perfected the the first person shooter mechanics with awesome weapons and just polished as fuck core mechanics. Painkiller overwhelmed the player with NPC's and it was always awesome.
So, why not combine the two?
Anywhoo, I spent a few hours making a concept in Black Mesa for all to play. Its just one hallway and the gameplay will last like 30 seconds. It just shows my of the NPC interaction with the player. Again, this is a VERY early concept and is currently hacked together. You have unlimited ammo via a weird map hack because I didnt want that to be a problem during gameplay. And yes you only get two weapons because they are powerful (like painkiller) and dont use magazines or clips so you can fire forever.
