Niller made the map, he owns it, I dont know if uploaded it to workshop or not, but if he did, its even more obvious theft. Unless you want to get down to fuckery fine print, in which case valve owns all versions of the map anyway since they made the program it was made on. Again, this person hasnt changed anything between the two versions other then the title, they ripped this off gamebanana and uploaded it to their workshop, they claimed in every space available that they made it, that they were the original makers, thats both fraud and theft. If they went a step farther they would have claimed to be Niller himself. Read this again with your head out of your ass and think about how much it doesnt even apply to this situation. But then again... Shit like this that reads like a reddit post seems to indicate your just being some dumb fuck contrarian that straddles the line between trolling and serious so you dont have to face the social consequences of being either one. Are you being serious? I dont know, its way to over the top to really be serious, but at the same time if youre trolling, its a massive failed attempt since nothings particularly funny about it either and it just comes off more cringy then anything else. Learn when its okay to troll and when to be serious so when you write utterly abhorrent, incoherent nonsense, people will be able to tell if your actually trying to be serious or just throwing a joke their way, itll make you a better person is all facets of life.

Oh boy. That I should live to see this day. Guess it pays of to still be lurking here despite not actively mapping anymore. Has it really been 6 years since I uploaded this map to gamebanana for the CEVO/Gamebanana mapping contest. I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed. You excluded the two best screenshots Props on the new name though, probably a bit better than its original name: de_nil_CastleIsland. I'll write it down as appreciation that you made this post. Start making your own maps, it's way more fun

Just going to throw this one out there, Valve, a billion dollar company, has been rumoured to cut a map from the first operation because they weren't sure of copyright issues with the map. Crazy right? Almost like they didn't want to take the chance, like the map, even though remade, was so much of a liability, it wasn't worth the chance. Kinda makes you think that you automatically own your ideas even though you post them online. Like almost as the creator you have the power to decide how your work can be distributed, used, and or remixed by others. Also like, you're responsible to defend your own copyright. Makes you go HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... -Freelance artist that lively hood depends on laws that protect creators.

You're the stupid troll who doesn't understand what theft is. It's not theft because the map is still in the hands of the original creator. If you have a banana, and I take your banana and you no longer have a banana, that is theft. If I copy your banana, you still have a banana, that is not theft. I am not a contrarian, repurposing public domain material is completely legal. The OP doesn't even claim to be the original creator, he calls it his new project which he hopes to improve. You're a pipsqueak and you talk like a Liberal, so many people on Mapcore are always calling people trolls because they're unable to understand a concept or disagree with it. You know you're pathetic when you call something theft that isn't theft, and suck the fucking joy out of sharing art and helping beginners improve their craft. Revulsion

https://store.steampowered.com/app/719180/Revulsion/ https://twitter.com/zZCastleZz/status/1088981339905363969 https://steamcommunity.com/app/719180 Alright guys! So here it is, I have got my indie FPS looter shooter to beta 1.0 with the goal of getting the game out of early access as soon as late next month! This is a indie game created by 1 person The game includes nearly 20 hand crafted levels as well as procedural generated levels as well! It took about a year and changes to produce this game. It has hundreds of unique items and weapon as well as a level cap of 100! Its not a small game at all! I need to seriously get word out as much as possible about this. If anyone here would like a free copy of the game feel free to PM me. Any advice on promotion is very welcome. Revulsion is officially gameplay complete right now! What this means is that all major gameplay aspects are now solidified. You can now play the game from start to finish and enjoy the entire experience as intended. The only things that are left to fix and tweak are polish to visuals and UI. I want people who play the beta right now to treat the game as a complete product and provide feedback based on that assumption moving forward. I intend to take the game out of early access as soon as late next month. I want to sit on the beta and make small tweaks and changes before I finally take the game out of early access. This means bug fixing and any little aspects that I can think of to improve the game. I am considering the idea of raising the price of the game to $19.99 after it leaves early access. This is not set in stone. But when I compare Revulsion to other games within the same genre within the indie space its hard to not see that Revulsion has just as much content as those games yet its selling for much less. If you buy the game now you effectively buy it at a 5 dollar discount. I will make sure to give at least a month warning before this happens. I will be gauging reactions in the community about this. Like I said its not set in stone. In my humble opinion Revulsion is a $19.99 game at this point in time. Changes and updates in Beta 1.0 2 new missions have been added to the game Ogrimgore's Lair Hard (lvl 50) Ogrimgore's Lair Revulsion (lvl 100) These missions contain 4 hand crafted levels. These levels range in size dramatically and contain easily the most challenging content the game has to offer so far. The final boss battle with Ogrimgore is now fully playable again! Infinite Dungeon system The infinite dungeon system allows you to play the game continuously within random generated levels. Every 10 floors you will have a chance to gain access to a special vending machine that has a high chance to sell extremely rare and unique weapons and items that are normally very hard to obtain. You can get items you are not supposed to have until way later in the game through this vending machine. Make sure to load up on credits before you complete the 10nth floor! Boosters and Special abilities costs have all been greatly reduced. Some special abilities are now basically free and can be spammed on cooldown at very little cost. This adjustment has been made to help reduce the overall difficulty of normal mode as the game is still brutally hard right now. I plan to make adjustments to the games difficulty in the next couple of weeks. Revulsion is designed from the ground up to be brutal. Its not meant to be an easy game in any way shape or form. I plan to monitor peoples reactions to the game. Expect more news and updates soon as I will be making videos and promoting the game a lot more in the coming days.

  17. The Specialist 2019 Source Mod Application Requirements: 1. You must have a job in real life and not enough time to join the Mod team and contribute anything. No jobless Liberals may join the team. I only want people to join my team who are currently being crushed by work life and unable to properly contribute. These are the only people in the world with value that can help me. 2. You must accept my tyrannical rule, I know better than all of you. I will overrule you. I am a carpenter and already skilled in telling people what to do. I could build 1000 houses in less time for Black Mesa to release a single update. Good things do not take decades to produce, these people are undisciplined and are not welcome to join my mod team. We landed on the moon in less time than Black Mesa took to release, that mod team can go fuck itself. That mindset can go fuck itself. No Socialists are welcome to join the mod team. 3. You must bitch and complain regularly about everything. I want back the old days where everyone had a brilliant idea that everyone else hated. No fucking Liberal ideas designed to appease everyone. This game is going to be fun for me first, and the rest of you second. You will be able to lone wolf, and win. I hope that makes you cry, Liberals. I'm going to STEAL MECKLENBURG AND RERELEASE IT. 4. I am going to take public domain contributions and repurpose them. Gun models, sounds, player models, ect. I'm not making a bunch of new shit for no reason. I'm also not asking anyone for their permission to redistribute, they can have attribution paid and that's it. Public domain. Time is money. If you take offense to this, you likely have no idea how to read a tape measure and are a Liberal. 5. Vino, unless he matches me dollar for dollar, is fired. I was looking to pay a programmer to get the ball rolling so I could recreate The Specialist on Source. I'm only considering Source, no other engine is good enough — if you disagree I don't care you're probably clueless. I wanted to use this as a starting point: https://github.com/BSVino/DoubleAction Because Double Action is dead, I want to take over where it left off and I want to strip some stuff out, add a few things, and focus on making it fun offline against bots. I just need a good programmer that I can afford, and I will fill in the rest with my own skill sets. The idea is to release the mod in a state where everyone can properly contribute to it, unlike DA which nobody can contribute to and is dead. I'll pay for the following: Mod Rebrand - New name and main menu Map Workshop integration Removal of achievements Adding and/or refining movement features like climbing ledges, mantling objects, tweaking existing movement. Refining baseline mechanics of 1 pistol, 1 smg, 1 shotgun Integrating bot parameters and modifying FGD for ease of creating single player scenarios against bots. That's it, if I can check off these boxes I will release the mod with some new fun maps and have a decent Beta 1. The reason I am doing this is because I think video games suck, and I know that everyone wants The Specialists to come back alive. If you want to join the project as a programmer, time and money is all I want to know. Anyone else is free to join this project, do not send me your resume or portfolio I do not give a shit. I'm only paying the programmer, the rest is volunteer. If you want to make a map, go right ahead. P.S. I fucking hate video games. If you hate video games too, then this is the project for you. I just want to release this, reach top 10 most played on Steam, and then tell Gabe Newell that he should fire himself.

Translation: Contest rules do not matter. You make a fair and logical point, you are correct. But part of starting off as being a map maker is not just learning how to map, but understand how to behave and what is and is not appropriate. The problem here in mapcore is that there is a total obsession over his missteps, which completely negated the OP from receiving useful information. The guy is character assassinated for committing virtually no measurable amount of harm. It's one thing to throw a .vmf on Ebay that does not belong to you, but to reshare what has already be shared, who cares?! Like I said, do you think Valve cares if you reupload Dust2 and not give David J credit? Lol I don't think so.

Censorship is for retards, even Gabe Newell stated censorship is stupid. Why would you advocate a thread is locked, maybe it has something to do with your argument being weak? At the end of the day, a map literally almost every last person on Earth has forgotten about and was never going to be worked on again, it was appreciated by someone, and it was given a new breath of life. Maybe the guy misstepped a little, but some of you are so dumb that you are virtually incapable of realizing that there is an overwhelming amount of love and goodness in the original post, y'all are transfixed on IP laws that you do not understand. This reminds me of the old days of Counter-Map, there was a moderator there named Tommy14, I despised this person. He used to ban and remove posts from anyone who uploaded a map in CS 1.6 that contained textures from Condition-Zero. Tommy14 was an incredible idiot who played a major role in the demise of Counter-Map. He had virtually no understanding of IP law, he acted with nothing more than virtue signalling like many of you here. Somehow in his mind, a person taking textures from one Valve project, putting it into another Valve project, and sharing it was a violation of intergalactic IP law. Now to this day, it is common practice to do this with all Valve titles. Valve does not give a shit if you take Portal 2 textures and add them to Day of Defeat Source. Valve does not give a shit if you reupload Dust2, add a hallway, and neglect to mention David J. This is why I feel so many people in this thread are stupid, you people are dumb. You people are killing artistic expression with your stupid fucking rabel. You do a total disservice to the world of map making in general when you make a pariah out of someone just starting off, you act like a cancer. This thread should not be locked, this is what actual real discussion looks like. There is no "topic" in conversations, topics naturally delineate as they become more interesting. Locking a thread runs as a direct contravention to the basic principles instilled by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms section 2, and well as the first amendment. If you can't handle freedom of speech, then leave Mapcore! This is a place for artists, not marxists looking to control the speech and expression of others.

Let's try to keep this discussion civil. The main problem here is that you're indirectly parsing of other peoples work as your own. According to gamebanana, where the map is originally uploaded, the work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license. I ain't particually knowledgeable on these licensings, but it seems to be a good start to give credit where credit is due. No offense taken. This was my first "official" and "competitive" map which it to many degrees suffers from; that and a tight deadline due to being entered into the CEVO/Gamebanana mapping contest at the time. This map is so far from being competitive that making a completely new map is more reasonable than trying to make this one competitive.

  25. I'm glad you asked! Perhaps it could be replaced with an elevated platform with some cover. That's what I first thought of when I saw it. And here's a little side note: Perhaps a different name would be better for the map. There are probably hundreds of maps on the workshop with the name "Abandoned" already. Perhaps Corrosion (de_corrosion) would be better? (Corrosion is a fancy term for rust)

This is a pic of the future to be T Spawn. There''s A LOT of work to be done but I''m getting used to Hammer and I'm getting faster and faster when doing things in it. Maybe the texture will change but looks pretty sweet to me. Also, the ground will be displaced to resemble a bumpy, foresty ground. Of course I will add props to it but in a later stage.

I had someone steal my map once and I had it taken down, and I regretted it immediately. You have to remember that the whole reason this person does what they do is because they love it. What makes you want to lash out is an instinct that should be kept at bay, it is a form of jealously that is misplaced. Learn to be flattered by things like this, it'll make you a better person and artist.

  31. Just so y'all know, I seriously appreciate being able to express myself without being censored. The response to this has been way beyond my expectations, I am in contact with the right people now to get this moving. The first baseline design document has been submitted to a Source engine experienced programmer who is going to provide me with advice on how to improve the document so that I can hire a programmer and help that person be successful. If I hire a programmer and the programmer fails to deliver, I take full responsibility for that and will blame myself and my design document, not the programmer. If you wish to contribute with The Specialist Source, then simply comment what you loved about the original game, or what you'd like to see in the Source version. If you want to make a map, let's talk about your ideas for setting, location, and any movies that inspire you. This mod will not break ground until a framework is set with clearly defined goals. Just like building a house, you can't just start digging a hole, sometimes it takes years to get permit approvals and all the planning done. In my opinion mods fail because they break ground without a proper plan in place. I will not break ground until the design document passes muster, and I have the quintessential developers in place, and they fully understand what needs to be done, and I have the cash available to pay them. In regards to Kick Starters, I understand some people can succeed with these, ultimately they are a socialist idea based on promises and a huge waste of time and energy. At some point in time in the future, I will clearly lay out my plans, and you will place a bet on me. You will come to know who I am, what my character is, you will know my face and where I live, and I will ask you to bet on me. Kick Starters are overly complex, I'm only going to ask you to bet, or to take a gamble on me blindly. I will mitigate your gambling risk by already having completed a task and having made the payment myself to the programmer. I will provide tangential proof that I can deliver before asking for anything from you. So to be clear, I will accomplish a task, pay the programmer myself, and then I will turn to the community and ask for donations to compensate me back. I will never ask for something without first providing it to you, I am not here to make a bunch of promises, but to sell you something I have actually made and that you can use and see for yourself. A Kick Starter can happen perhaps one day when leaving Beta, but until then my money goes where my mouth is, and I'm not asking for anything from anyone but ideas, and recommendations of a programmer to hire. I'm also interesting in acquiring mentors for developers, similar to apprenticeship program in the Skilled Trades. If you are a highly skilled player modeler and animator, but you have a wife and kids and you are taking care of your parents and your life is very fully and busy, you can still help me, I can still find value in you. 5 minutes a day of your time can be used to mentor someone who is learning the process. I want to pair mentors with apprentices, this way less experienced map makers and modelers, animations, ect, can be coached to stay on track and avoid common pitfalls. When I give you a deadline, I will provide you with resources to ensure that you meet it. You will take the deadlines I give seriously, you will understand that when you work on this mod, what you are doing is trying to prevent Roam from forgetting how to make roads. The entire reason this mod exists is to demonstrate to the world that we are on the brink of losing a once understood art form, mod development. If we take a lackadaisical and aimless approach to development, we'll forget how to build roads, and without supply lines, we'll forget how to make concrete all the same. We are doing this to save gaming from itself, to remove Liberal and Marketing control over design, and to bring back all the lessons learned from HL1 and HL2, like communicating through the environment. In closing think about this, HL1 and HL2 taught us how to tell a story through the environment. This is a lost art, because by the time L4D shipped, the story was literally written on the fucking walls. L4D was a complete and total failure in terms of story telling, it chose to literally tell you the story through the environment, rather than to do it implicitly and subtly. So what did L4D do to correct the problem? They released a stupid comic. They did not learn from their mistakes. The knowledge of story telling through the environment was lost, just like how Rome lost their ways all the same.

I finished it the other week when I finally had some free time. 19 hours of mostly annoyance free fun! Having never played RE2 before I definitely feel the 1st half of the game was more enjoyable for me than the final part. I loved every minute of the police station and discovering the underground bit. Sewers were okay, really hated those big fleshy things that came out the water and that bit that forced you through their lair bit. Mostly because it stressed me out haha. Really enjoyed the level design for the station and sewers though, how it all joins up and had me going "oooh I see now". Particularly the part where I came out to an originally locked door to the stairs that took me down to the sewers, I really liked little bits like that. Didn't like the FBI girls bits with her hacking gun, weakest part of the game to me. Fortunately it was only brief. The dialogue and voice acting was god awful, but it's a 90's Japanese game it's part of the package. Also the last boss fight can go do one. I died once the whole game to a section I thought was a cinematic but turned out to be sort of QTE that wasn't presented well at all. But the final boss I died like 5 times.

  34. This is my first attemp at a map! Name is de_abandoned and the theme will be in a...you guessed it...abandoned factory..! I had this idea to make the T spawn next to the CT spawn and kind of isolate CT spawn from playing a significant role in the gameplay. The way the map turned out though I think CT spawn became even more strategical than before. The rotations for the Terrorists are kind of huge but you have a lot of options of how to attack a site and how to defend. The CT's have to keep an eye at all sites and the mid because the Ts can backstab both sites if they penetrate Mid and go through CT spawn to A, or through CT spawn to the backside of B. All in alll I'm pretty happy with the layout but if I think of anything that will help it I will add it to it. Haven't play-tested it with humans yet, only with bots but it seems pretty balanced. I let the bots run around the map 5 v 5 and the score after two hours was something like 40-37 This is the view of mid from CT side. I'm not crazy about these beams they will probably get replaced with something else. This is bombsite A. The ramp towards the lower level is leading to the CT spawn. The actual bombzone is above the two arches, around the two boxes. This is towards B. Looking down the window you can see the big area outside B. This is outside A. On the left after the wall is the outer side of the 3 windows wall. This is outside B ( behind the wall on the right is the next picture) Towards B Outside A Window side. This passage connects mid house with outside B This is the view of B from the attacking side This is close to T spawn This is behind Mid (If you move forward past the walls you end up in B) Thank you for your time.

Filled up A site some more I have made the B bomsite area abit smaller and put the plantzone in the center instead of behind the pillars Mid boost has a catwalk going into the B window room. This area is now only accesable by boost for both teams. Also removed the peek hole watching into the tunnel.

Looking great!! One thing I noticed by watching the video is that every area feels a bit similar, which makes the map harder to navigate for first time players. One way to solve could be by color coding some areas, or having strong themes in specific areas, restricting specific props only to those areas. Let's say, CT spawn has majorly blue signs/lighting, Bomb sites are mostly red/orange, maybe the middle of the map has a lot of vegetation, the subway could have green walls etc... so you know exactly where you are without having to think about it. You have an incredibly solid base and with some minor readability/navigational/lighting tweaks, this map will be really special! Here's an example of how we did this in Lijiang Tower in Overwatch:

It doesn't feel like any space in the map goes to waste and it's easy to figure out where you are at after walking around for 5min. The map is pretty compact but there are a few long angles. I'd feel like awpers would dominate sites either pushing or defending from how spaced out both sites are. A few unique features like the fence boost and how mid is setup. Looking forward to the playtest.

  41. Hey! The font used for your name and role in the upper left corner is a lot more rounded and doesn't go well with the other font on your page. I'd recommend taking a look at what pairings of fonts work well together over here: https://fontpair.co/ The same name/role image also makes the page feel a bit messy, because each row has a different starting point: I would put the rows in that image so that each row has the same horizontal starting point as the projects title on the page. I think that small thing would make the entire page feel a lot cleaner. I find it a bit odd that your Dying Light map is listed as an "in-house engine" and not a individual project. On the banners of Skylar & Plux and Trial you mention level art but don't really go into or show if you have modeled anything for the projects as far as I can see. But overall your documentation seems pretty dope to me. I love small touches here and there, especially that you show multiple .cs files that you can open and close, integrated into the site design. Saving your CV as a .docx file can be a bit risky by the way as some of the formatting might get lost for different peeps. I'd go for a .pdf which is more reliable when it comes to that. I am looking for work myself at the moment so maybe take my feedback with a grain of salt. I have been where you are and looked for internships before though. I wouldn't worry too much, just keep looking and I'm sure you'll find something soon!
