    Resident Evil 2 Remake

This looks so incredible, RE4 still remains my favorite in the series but I only experienced RE2 by the time it was atleast 10 years old so I didn't have that magical experience that others had when they played it new. So excited to play through this. Now I just want more remakes of those landmark 90s/2000s games. Maybe one day we'll get a remake of Max Payne or by some miracle an MGS2 remake...

lol! We iterate a lot on the maps, a lot of the small changes you see are art driven (to make things easier to build), and we also have a lot of freedom to shift stuff around to improve the flow, sightlines etc... We never just convert a level design map straight into art, there's always a "cleanup" phase if you will. But sometimes we do major level design changes later on (but those are always driven by design of course). That's something I really enjoy about this pipeline, it feels very organic

The Last of Us Part 2

This gameplay preview didn't surprise me as nearly as the tlou1 hotel gameplay preview did back then, that, for me is still the hallmark of fantastic AI. This one feels very scripted and planned. I am happy that they kept the gameplay pretty much intact from tlou1, it is one of the best games I've ever played, feels very smooth with some smaller things added to the mix, also glad they're keeping the UI / Backpack inventory system, its a genius way to manage your shit and fits the gameplay style like a glove. I hope the survival horror aspect is still there and they don't make it more actiony, if anything i want it to be even more strategic, i want to have to count every bullet, every time I squeeze the trigger needs to feel meaningful, save every medpack for when i reeeealy need it.

    Generation Zero

Completely agree. His work really blew up in the last year or so and I wonder if he wants to capitalize on that or just continue making great art like he has been doing. At the same time, I'm finding it harder all the time to draw the line between being inspired by and just lifting other people's creative work. If the game does well and Avalanche never made an agreement with Stalenhag, I can imagine there might be some hard feelings.

    E3 2018

I was at the Microsoft conference today. The fanboys they brought in were pumped as shit. They announced or showed a total of 50 games, plus acquisition of 5 studios including Ninja Theory. They are clearly making a no bullshit effort to restore a strong 1st party development system. Good for them. I am no fanboy of any platform so I hope it goes well for Microsoft. Halo Infinite ... didn't show much yet. Gears 5...sorry but it felt very trope-y despite still having fans who may like this Devil May Cry 5...fans were getting nerd boners it seems... Shadow of the Tomb Raider....I love the series so take my money on this one. Some new PUBG related stuff... Kingdom Hearts III....had Elsa and Anna from Frozen in it. "WTF WHO CARES?" you say. Well the crowd went nuts at that and shit my young daughters were pumped to hear about that when I told them and they started asking me about Kingdom Hearts and now think "wait...maybe this RPG and Zelda thing daddy likes could be cool." So fucking bravo, Square Enix, bravo to you. While you are at it, throw in Sofia the First and Elena of Avalor (especially Elena cause she is good with a sword and can fight) cause my kids love them too. Dying Light 2...oh man I am pumped for this. I loved the first game. Fallout 76 looked very pretty and I suppose if you love Fallout you may love this. I'm supposed to see it up close this week so looking forward to that. They are working on "some kind of thing that could eventually be a new console" ...big eyeroll as of course they are and have been working on a new hardware iteration of some kind. Call me with some real news, pls. At the end they had a cool Cyberpunk 2077 showing that you should read about in the other thread, Finally, this was pretty cool: https://news.microsoft.com/stories/xbox-adaptive-controller/ I got to try it out up close. By itself it is not revolutionary and it seems resourceful gamers (and/or those who care about gamers with special controller needs) have been hacking their way to gerry-rigged solutions for a while...so Microsoft just decided to make it a little easier for them. As an industry analyst I have no idea how much this will sell, but hey, if it helps people who love gaming but can't use a regular controller due to an injury, brain-injury, degenerative disease or some other reason, good on Microsoft. I also think that they would be fun to mess around with the way people were interested in with the Kinect years back.

Yeah, change is good man. Iteration is key. LD blockouts are rarely a one to one blueprint for the level. In theory, that's what it should be, but in practice that's just when the real iteration happens, when art marries with the design.
