    Frictional Games is hiring!

Heya! Got some friends at Frictional and they're hiring! (I'm not affiliated at all with Frictional Games, I'm just posting.) Also ignore what you heard about Sweden and Malmö in regards to Trump's ranting the last couple of weeks. I lived in Malmö for 5 years and it's great. Sure, don't walk shit-ass drunk in dark back alleys at night, but what city doesn't have that? Everything is within biking range, there's an influx of concerts and other cultural events and if the city's still 'too small' for you, you got Copenhagen a 20 minute train ride from the central station. I might be able to put in a good word for you, PM in that case. Cheers! FRIDAY, 16 DECEMBER 2016 Hiring: 3D Artist At Frictional Games we love to make stuff that stands out from the rest of the crowd. Penumbra was a unique combination of horror, physics and adventure gaming. With Amnesiawe redefined what horror games can be and helped to kickstart the Let’s Play phenomenon. In SOMA we explored deep subjects in new, unsettling ways. We aim to continue this trend and we’re now looking for a 3D Artist to join our ranks. This is a full-time employment, working from home or from our soon-to-be-established hub-office in Malmö. Applicants must be living in Europe and be prepared to move to Sweden in a near future (if you are not already here). Working closely with our Gameplay Programmers / Designers and putting your modelling, texturing and prop-making skills to use, your main responsibility will be to create breathtaking gameplay environments and player experiences for our upcoming games. Here is a rundown of some of a few more specific tasks: Make the basic models that make up our levels (walls, floor, etc).Work with designers to design the layout of our levels. Both from a gameplay and artistic perspective. Build whole levels from whitebox to the finished polished product. Model props of various complexity, both with and without the use of previously drawn concept art, often having to take certain gameplay aspects into account. Construct particle systems, both by drawing textures and setting up parameters in our editor. Recreate various effects such as flowing water, fires, etc. by making best use of the tools at your disposal. Collaborate with designers/scripters and come up with the best player experience possible for a particular scene. Full application post here.

if you can't compile full within a decent time you need to work on optimizing it more. Having these sorts of issues early on just mean you'll have worse issues later when you try to publish it.

New patch: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20753535162 Blizz actually went live with the ridiculous Bastion buffs. Also, the only change to competitive play is really minimal and not about fixing real problem, which is: trolls and players who throw the match after one disagreement. Amazing stuff.

Voted Black Mesa. If it's gonna be csgo, I second that it should be non-de for a change.

    [CSGO] Junction Assets

For those of you that were following the progress of junction I had announced that I'd be releasing all of it's content for free use. In the package I've included the latest vmf (sorta) and vmf instance files. Once again, if you guys have any questions please hit me up on this thread versus pm'ing on steam. Ideally it will help answer questions for multiple artists and provide references. Free to use for non-commercial work, as long as you give me credit. DOWNLOAD LINK I'll update the assets 3ds scenes at a later time. Some models are missing collision meshes, but I deemed them not necessary. EDIT: Fixed download link

Had to google "movie kills diabetic with candy" but I found it! It is Big Nothing.

How you interact with people -- and how you solve problems together -- is a very valuable skill. Figuring out how to fit that in with your actual measurable work output is important. This is true in my experience, at least.

Maybe de_divide or something that explains the theme of the map, the huge difference between the rich and the poor. I think thats a nice concept and could be worked out in the mapname. The map looks nice Rosk. I hope the red statue is not a final creation :D. Its.. redddd

    [CS:GO] Layout creator for Photoshop!

There is nothing wrong about trying out ideas and sharing it with others to get some feedback. As said before, I appreciate the effort done. The thing is, it restricts mappers to stay on a 90° grid. If you'd advance a little further maybe 45°. To make the pipeline a little more valid to usual processes: scan a hand-drawn layout, put it into Photoshop and try to fit the displayed structures/shapes into the drawn layout. I imagine this might be very useful for some people!

Very nice @Vorontsov. I would only suggest to alter that font to better match the art deco-like look from your reference. Right now it looks like you added some random lines to the characters.

    [WIP Thread] UT CTF-Castle

It's hard to tell from not playing the map but it seems like some measurements are a bit tight. I'd recommend you take a look at the display scene with all measurements and items placed out and cross reference it with your map. It doesn't have to follow all the measurements exactly but if you are differentiating from the standards should to be a consciouss move. I made this cheat sheet a while back last year and I know they added some more in that example scene. I always have one on another screen or closely at hand. Click it then "Full Size" button to get a high resolution.

    Middle-earth: Shadow of War

First one was great and one of the few games I played through to the end in recent years. However it was indeed repetitive at times - but it wasn't bad enough to turn me away.

Remember that Papa tomm's meme? It was incredibly hard and frustrating but here it is. I think it's good enough. Thanks @tomm for the help with the 2nd UV channel chaos. One of the goals with the remake was to match the reference much closer, whereas the original one was bland. The original one was also made entirely of brushes except for the doors, this one is just one model, clean and easy to manipulate. (doors are still separate, but also completely new!)

As I promised to keep this updated, here's an update, sort of. It's a compile without VIS so don't question me on why it looks weird: Also this map needs a new name. Post your suggestions, of a new name?

    You Decide Mapcore's Future

I'm going to go ahead and close the polls now (I think you can still vote, but as of now it's CS:GO 1, UT 2, 1024 3). I think myself and @Sprony have enough data to steer the process from here and give you guys some cool events in line with what was voted on. Hopefully our future events will be exciting for everyone!

Finally got some more personal work to show off after a bit of a dry spell The Allegorithmic guys invited me to give the new Substance Designer 6 a test drive, so I made a new substance using the new nodes. Mostly the curve node which allows you to precisely control gradients.

Hey Mapcore! A really long time ago I've worked on a map named de_bridge. The divergent pathways made it hard to get the layout right. Afther many tests it did work and H4wkle designed it to something beautifull. Workshop: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=843817559 A few images:
