I was expecting planets to be different along with the resources you can gather. Find a planet that is barren of everything but one resource but mining it might piss off the local mining group, another planet that has lots of sentient life, another that is constantly hit by meteor storms or a planet that looks like its recently been hit by some massive natural disaster. So far we just have a varied bumpiness, colour and different lego piece animals. And instead of searching for rare materials and minerals, it seems that everything is abundant and its just a grind to keep certain meters from nagging you constantly. Also I see that "its only a small team" argument on reddit a lot. Quite frankly I don't care how many people or who made it. The price point is all i care about, and at $60 I expect a full AAA title in terms of quality. But what i see is a game with much less depth than Minecraft or Terraria offered on release, both of which i paid about 8 dollars for. To be honest, the game reeks of being a programmers game. A game with some nice features that can serve as a quality starting point. But did they have a singe game designer on the team to focus any of these ideas into an actual game? I really does just look like a tech demo and at some point someone decided to cobble together some form of game and what they ended up with is the "inventory full" simulator @Mazy mentions.

Hehe thanks guys. Yeah, it's an incredible game and I'm really proud to have worked on it. I'm also just happy for the awesome people that worked on it for nearly 6 years that it was worth it

Exploration is fine when there is something worth seeing. So far it seems like planets are all the same but a different colour and the animals are random Lego pieces put together by a child. http://imgur.com/Mfrz3Uk

To be fair, even without nerfs and buffs, the meta evolves over time. Of course balancing has to do with that, but still, it's no different in DOTA 2 with the exception they have a lot more heroes, last years international was boring because the same 15 or so where picked constantly. This year isn't much different just with another 15 heroes, but at least they changed (mostly) Overwatch is in it's infancy for Esports, We'll see nice changes over time in hero picks and strats. Once the game has been out a few years, you'll be seeing the previous meta, current meta and evolving meta go head to head.

I think the bottom line is that people will either 1) want stories or 2) want to create stories. Either way, there has to be a story somewhere. When you know that a code just randomly generated the world you're in, it's going to feel very meaningless and shallow.

Procedural games are still in their baby shoes. We've seen some impressive tech for world generation but the next step needs to be procedural content generation that doesn't feel weird and shallow. I imagine it's only a question of time that someone makes a game as complex as say Skyrim, only that the world, quests, characters, factions etc. get generated afresh everytime you start a new game.

2 years is not the point, and even then it's not a lot of time for a AAA priced game, you'd expect some serious quality and scoped content (1 trillion procedural world is pointless if the content doesn't compliment it) even Overwatch realized this and priced their game down to $40 for PC. Value is undoubtedly one of the most important parts of games these days, or well, perceived value I should say. I'm not trying to hate on this game, it excites me from a concept point of view, but for me it's a $15-20 game from what I have seen thus far, and charging full AAA price upfront to seeming catch the hyped fans is only punishing the people that cared the most.

  16. Hello, Mapcore! I present to you a little sneak peek of my competitive CS:GO map, Atriosa. I would like to hear your thoughts on the details. It has been tested a lot with my friends but it is not fully detailed and I don't like sending unfinished products. I will be uploading it to the workshop for you guys the next few months. Note: The map as seen in these screenshots may not look the same in the official release.

This, so much this. I think the game hasn't been out long enough to make an accurate call on this, and like Chris said the meta will change over time. imho, roadhog and junkrat are some of the best classes for competitive and they're on the lower half of that list, that really amazes me.

  19. You can use both. You just need to export the right textures and models after. (csgo supports fbx) Remember Source only uses Diffuse, Specular, Normal. (All other params like phong are added) So using the PBR settings isn't quite useful. I believe standard works fine, but you don't get the nice parallax like you do with the PBR shader. I've made a few textures in SD and brought them into Source. Just how you put in the example. You're basically not using Photoshop and instead using SD

Shocking IMO. Some of the most interesting heroes being totally disfavored. The game feels great in pubs, but you kinda hope something changes there. Watching a Lucio play would be a lot duller than a Mercy, for instance. I'm fine with Bastion and Torb being rarer, but Hanzo? Mei? Widowmaker? Roadhog!? Pharah!!? As a spectator of course I want to see rockets flying everywhere and people getting hooked.

  21. Hello everyone, I am a professional designer just about ready to release a free custom mod I've been working on for over 2 years! This mod has custom maps, models, destructibles, code, shaders, and more that I need beta testers for. I'm looking for 8 volunteers, ideally senior members of this community, to help screen for final bugs & feedback. What is Transmissions : Element 120? A short single player experience set in the Half-Life Universe featuring a unique gravity defying weapon that allows you to jump buildings and sustain large falls. The story takes place at a mysterious date & location after the events of Half-Life : Episode 2. Where are you? Why have you been sent? To help bring the Source Engine up to date several new features are included: Enhanced dynamic lighting Integrated Source Shader Editor 0.5 for enhanced post processing & lighting Improved support for complex physics structure Support for super massive physics objects Improved AI and group behavior on multiple AI types Below are the first public screenshots of the game and mapcore is first to have them: Minimum Requirements Processor: Pentium 4 - 3.0 GHz, or AMD equivalent RAM: 1GB (1024 MB) Graphics Card: Shader Model 2.0 capable, ATI 9600, NVidia 6600 or better 725MB of free HD space My machine is 2 years old and the game runs great. Source SDK Base 2007 must be installed for the mod. What will volunteers do? Play through the game which takes anywhere from 0.5-1 hours to complete. Report any game blocking bugs or severe visual glitches. Fill out a short questionnaire when you're done. Install & Instructions To play download either e120.zip or Setup_TE120.exe from the link below: http://1drv.ms/1OyARWi Install instructions located on this page along with the question sheet. http://www.transmissions-element120.com/ [UPDATE] Changed OP to reflect beta is now open to mapcore

  22. Since I am not as familiar with SD as some on this forum, ill just answer your examples. I'm sure someone else can go into more detail for you. Yes you will need to export the substance as a TGA to then convert into a VTF, source doesn't support substance materials. For models it depends on what you want your result to be. SD is good for all the procedural variations you can get, but since source doesn't support substance materials you are probably better off with SP or a combination of both. Main issue you will have here is models need to be high poly or have a normal map, something you wont get from the valve models. Substance uses the high poly of models to generate a lot of other textures so the procedural generation knows what to do. Without the high poly, substance isn't very useful. I imagine there are no substance to source guides out there as source doesn't support substance, but there are a lot of general tutorials around.

More like inventory is full simulator It's fine, but already after 2-3 hours yesterday I feel like I've had my fill, but it might also be a thing that you kinda need to be in a particular mood for. The part where you're speeding towards a new planet and enter it's atmosphere is pretty amazing, it's just all the other stuff you do that loses it's charm very quickly for me. Gonna give some more time to see if it throws some surprises into the mix. It's also going to be interesting to see how they support the game in the coming time, almost more than anything it felt like any of the countless early access survival/crafting games on Steam.

This game is definitely a must play. Art direction, sound design and puzzle design is top notch and this game really understands how to tell a compelling story without words or traditional methods. Its really one of the tightest experiences Ive had with a game. Makes me proud that I know people that worked on this and Mazy does indeed rule

A big thanks from me as well! We just updated the workshop submission with the newest version: featuring a blue curtain instead of a black one! Major game changer! Change Notes: - Improved clipping (no more boosting out of the map, sorry) - Slightly changed seating stairs leading to the stage - Added details - Added grenade clip to the huge USA flag - Increased brightness in the Stage 1 and Stage 2 area - Decreased BloomScale from 1.2 to 0.5 (When going from indoors to outdoors, you won't get blinded as much anymore)
