Thank you guys! This, and other feedback i got, helped out alot. I feel i should've posted some updates earlier but better late than never right? Long story short, i changed up my entire layout cause it was lacking a focuspoint. I dropped some of my minor ideas (mainly the coastal line) due to time constraints. If it's not clear, the weird grainy lines are a rain effect in the scene. I can imagine it's not obvious from the screenshots.8 points

That door is important because the entrance on that side is too long to check everytime. Also it would be really hard for T's to take the A site from Middle since they have to check 2 sides at the same time. This way if a CT tries to go the door T's will be able to hear and know someone is there.Of course i made it special for competitive where you can boost a team-mate on a box so they don't have to open the door at all.Makes for more dynamic gameplay i guess. Something like this i guess : Might as well show some of the work on the hotel I'm trying to make the inside of the hotel minimalistic as possible since it's closed space. ^ 50degree building (fml)4 points

shichang is mandarin for market. as you can tell by the name it is set in a urban asian city. I've had this level setting on my hard drive before i started on kandagal. Things just kept coming up and now i have time to work on this. I want this to be a fun and competitive map for csgo. My main plan was to create as much custom assets as i could for this while keeping the size of the level (memory) as low i could. I'm not that great with words, so ill just let the pictures do the talking. References: I remember seeing this image and instantly wanted to create a level in this setting. I want to capture the colors while still not making it noisy. Over all i think it has some pretty interesting architecture and could make for an interesting scene. The thing that might be hard to deal with is the amount of noise that is on the street. The shops, signs, trash cans and the lighting from the open shops could cause some problems if i wanted to add those details. With all this in mind i went ahead and tryed to make a basic sketch. I followed it but the scale was slightly off so its not an exact copy of the sketch. It didn't take to long to block this out. but i kind of got cared away with some of the details. i just couldn't help it, it was to much fun! ct spawn: out of ct spawn. the timings for this spot are pretty good the openings on the builds are the hostage areas. T spawn: Left of the t spawn connecting the side street and the upper highway: To the upper high way: inside the building looking out to the main street/hostage area. ct side. Stairs on the left of ct spawn going down to the main street. Sorry for the long post. I will upload a version to steam workshop soon once i'm done with cliping everything.1 point

I've been trying to fix some of the problems that i saw on the game test. I gave cover to the Terrorists: I moved the truck closer the the building and added some crates to block the view of the CT's feet. Something i didn't intended to happen. I moved up the building the hostages are in. The area felt to large for the type of gameplay this gamemode needs. The alley exit also got moved to the hostage building. also added an easy way for T players to get to the alley without having to deal with the middle. Thank you guys for all the support. If anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear it.1 point -
Hi Mapcore! For my graduation year i got tasked to create an environment. A large part of the task is implementing a research aspect. In my case, learning CryEngine 3. I decided to create an environment somewhat based on the black forest in Germany but felt like doing something with a coastal line since that seems to be a big part of working with this engine. Although i'm far from finished, i would love some feedback on my work so far. Hopefully some of you have some experience with CryEngine and point me in the right direction. Especially when it comes to the overall atmosphere. While it warrants a seperate thread, i'm gonna place my portfolio here aswell. I'm currently looking for an internship and have to get my portfolio looking purdy so feel free to comment on that aswell http://www.tomivens.com1 point

Question about lighting in Quake 1

The "Mapping Help" thread on func_msgboard is a great resource for Quake specific level design questions. You might try asking there if you don't find a solution (and it's a good resource in case you run into anything in the future) http://celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=4&start=146751 point -

Honestly the amount of colors in the scene really depends on the mood he wants to portray. If dark wet and depressing is your goal then you definitely achieved it! (looks awesome so far btw)1 point

This wasn't really my point, more that downloading 65gb in most of the UK is a real joke as our internet is shit. A good 1tb ssd drive here can cost upwards from £350 to £500 depending on the speeds. Right now that isn't affordable for me. Then get up and go buy the physical copy? or wait for the onlive version XD1 point

Heya JDog This thread might help you Also I generally recommend this site: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ Here it has a TOP 10 Of gaming notbooks: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Purchase-Consultation.13212.0.html Apart from that, you probably want at least 8GB RAM, better would be 16 GB. Also a fast intel quadcore (i5 or i7) These requirements are ususally easily fulfilled by many laptops. Where it gets more expensive is with the laptops that have a good GPU. It should at least have a GTX 860M (Nvidia) With these specs, you'll be above UE4's minimum requirements and be able to work decently. A better GPU is obviously nice. Other things to watch out for with gaming laptops is the display quality (colors, brightness, reflections, panel), the battery life (usually very low with gaming machines), the temperature, component exchangability (battery, GPU, etc) and noise level. Also Display size is important (17,3" or 15.4") It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. But you'll always have to make some kind of compromise with notebooks. Some are fast, but hot, others are cool, but loud and some are fast, cool and silent, but have a shitty display. So I recommend reading tests in any case. Regarding price, I'd expect that you'll end up paying something between 1k and 2k euros. EDIT: Concrete recommendations: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Edition-VN7-791G-7939-17-3-Inch/dp/B00NJNFVO0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421186815&sr=8-2&keywords=acer+aspire+17 1200 Euros (be sure to not get the -759Q version, but newer versions like the 791G tho, I heard the -759 Q has problems with Wifi or sth) o alright perfomance (GTX 860M, 16GB RAM, i7 Quadcore) +light weight +cool +silent -component exchangability not good http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT70-DOMINATOR-2293-9S7-1763A2-2293-17-3-Inch/dp/B00O4ORQ3C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421187058&sr=8-2&keywords=MSI+GT70 1600 Euros +very nice perfomance (GTX970M, 8GB RAM, i7 Quadcore) +component exchangability good -loud -only 8GB RAM (there might be a version with 16GB tho, havent looked)1 point

HP, as long as you remember that the respect you give others is the respect you give back. It's also quite a blanket statement to say that all religions are horrible - most non-semitic religions are actually pretty ok. I mean, look at Buddhism. Nobody here is comparing extremism of any kind to people who are just of a faith. I'd urge you to read what kokoz said a page back, because it's a pretty important distinction to make between those people who kill for the religion and those who don't. For those who don't; you saying spirituality and them saying religion sounds to me very much like the same statements. ...Which ties into what I wanted to say to KT nicely: People need purpose, they need to know that their existence is meaningful in some way, because that's how the human mind works. Many people have based their purpose on their faith, either by converting or by growing up in a household of practice. This has given them a mental purpose, but it has also intertwined religion into their identity. So when discussing the topic of religion with them, defending their faith becomes paramount for them because it is an essential part of their identity - and breaking their identity is neither something that they want to do nor is it something anyone else can do for/against them. Knowledge in this case will likely just give them cognitive dissonance and make them ignore any rational statements. Conclusion/TL;DR: My suggestion for a solution is then not to abolish all religion, because people would just make up new stuff to believe, but to let people be and be respectful towards them. Most people use faith in a way that doesn't affect others. Those that do are not really religiously motivated, but politically motivated (e.g. terrorists). Here's the wiki link for cognitive dissonance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance1 point

^^^ Very nice work, Mind! I love the fact that you modeled a carrying case for your M4 to sit in! I feel... silly posting my first skin, having to follow your post! I'm still getting used to 3D, as my main skill is level design, but this was my first go at finishing a full skin and going through the process of finalizing, submitting, and prepping my Workshop page for it. Learned a lot. Can't wait to go full-on with my next skin. M4A4 | Verde Technical1 point

I guess you'll want it to look as good as possible on default settings, so I would set gamma to 1.0 and look at it on a screen that's pretty standard. Or if you know that the monitor is brighter then standard lower the brightness.1 point -

It looks really flat and the colors are pretty bland, common man it's a forest, you can make it way more beautiful if you add a lot of nice colors and a nice lighting that go trough the leaves. You should also work on a 'focus' point in your scene, putting some random shots of a forest isn't interesting, make something like a really hold barn, an antenna station, a waterfall, idk, but think about a central piece, and work around that, with a nice landscape behind, it will looks amazing. If you are making a scene, always think about a story behind your pictures. So please, add some colors already.1 point
