Want to write an article or tutorial for the whole MapCore audience, exposing your work to thousands of views? Now's your chance to immortalise your thoughts by contributing a guest feature, just like those over on the right. Texturing tutorial? Map review? Game design philosophy? Video tutorial? Let your creative juices flow. The only requirement is that the article be exclusive to MapCore.

To make it as easy as possible, the 'Feature Submission' forum has been created for you to put together your feature and submit it to the editor. In this forum you can write your feature just like any other topic on MapCore — the difference being that only the editor can see what you post.

Once your topic has been posted, the editor will go through your feature and give feedback/suggestions where appropriate. When the article is ready and you've confirmed that you're happy for it to be posted, it'll be promoted to a full-blown feature for everyone to enjoy.

Formatting notes from the editor
My job as editor isn't to mess around with your feature; your words will remain yours. However, I will format features to match our existing ones. If you want to try and do some of this yourself so you can get a better feel for how it'll look, the guidelines are:
  • Big headings use the [heading] tag, just like the one above
  • Images used in features are inserted as attachments, which automatically become right-aligned thumbnails once promoted
  • Other formatting should be limited to the basics (bold, italic, strike, etc)
  • The first image in a feature is always bigger (350px width, unlimited height)
  • Attaching large images is better as the software will automatically generate different-sized versions

If any of that seems too fiddly, just write your feature however you feel comfortable. I'm more than happy to get the formatting and inserted images looking perfect. You can even just attach a ZIP of images and tell me where to put them, or provide none at all if you'd prefer to focus on the writing and I'll find appropriate ones.

If you do decide to find images yourself, please ensure they're free to use. Game screenshots should always be fine, but other random images found on Google Images can be tricky copyright-wise. If in doubt, use a free stock photo site like Stock Exchange.
