Am I the only one who think they looks fucking dumb with their helmets ? And while this technology is awesome, i'm a bit scared for the future of our society too. Might wait a lilttle bit before buying one or i'll end up by locking myself in a room watching VR porn all day long, and i'm not sure if it's a good thing or not.

I think we are safe for now but imagine the kids who will have easy access to VR porn... I think that generation will be doomed.

just installed mine today! Set-up isn't as bad as people say, just the number of wires is very intimidating at first. ONce you calm the F*ck down and actually look at it, it's more doable. Youtube videos definitely help. So far, this is my favorite:

IT'S SO FUN!

Once I read that the general plan against over population is to raise the quality of life in eastern countries at the point that they will put money ahead of family.

We've already seen Chinese selling a kidney to buy an iPad (true story), maybe that's the big achievement VR will bring: zero the Chinese baby making through porn.

So, after a fair bit of use, I'm pleased with the Vive. When you get "presence" it is quite magical. So magical and so novel that it's tempting to write a million paragraphs exploring the nuances of my experience. As for the not so cool stuff, it's probably exactly what you expect for an early adopter type device. The hardware is generally fantastic (if a bit heavy on your face). The software, on the other hand, has a lot of catching up to do. It's weird to think that a futuristic high-tech device has just come out, and it's the software that's lagging behind. Thankfully, software can be patched!

Hey guys, really thinking about getting a Vive. Would like to hear your thoughts now that some time has passed!

Is 2nd gen far off do you think?

I'd say a fair while before gen 2 happens. Doubt Valve would work on a VR headset for the next gen without releasing a entire game based around it. Wouldn't count the lab in that as it was more of a tech demo than anything.

I predict that Valve is currently revisiting the F-STOP concept they came up with during Portal 2's creation, as it would seem to be the best fit for the headset.

If you don't remember F-STOP, it was this

Yeah @Puddy, Vive just came out and "there's no software" for it… not that I know anything special but they can't be thinking of updating the visor before than at least one year!

I guess that with lower volumes of products they could very well introduce small updates to mostly correct design flaws, but a proper 2nd gen must be at least one year away.

Personally I would get it only for development reasons, I haven't seen any killer app yet.

I really like the steam controller! I haven't really found a game I couldn't play with it. You just get so much control for the thing right out of the box, no juggling around with third party programs and different control profiles or anything it's all automatic! and it's so much fun to just customize the controls I find myself constantly tweaking something. It's not perfect though, I kinda found the layout of the controller somewhat weird at first and using the track pads takes a long while to get used to properly.

I wish more games from the recent years would have supported simultaneous inputs from different controllers. It's frustrating to discover that games usually either disable kb+mouse in favor of controller or outright freeze all inputs while using inputs from both control methods for several seconds. Steam controller's best efforts to emulate the mouse movement for controller only games doesn't really cut it. I just want games to support using the analog stick + mouse more.

Anyway, best piece of gaming hardware I've bought a while.

Dev Days are on!

They opened saying that Valve won't announce products (no HLVR then) and that will be for next year.

But seems like they are working on getting VR wireless, and working on more handy controllers like the Touch from Oculus. But, to one-up them, it will be capable of sensing a grip!

Had family VR time today, was sooo much fun. Played a lot of games, nothing really extraordinary yet. But it was fun to introduce everybody to it (and very social! being able to see what people are experiencing on your PC makes a huge difference and makes for a lot of laughs on jump-scares and shit like that.)

I've got room-scale running in a hallway outside my room, even though it's about 10ft by 8ft, it's just not enough space. Wireless cannot come soon enough.

my brother suggested I get rid of my bed in my room to do VR. He thought it was a joke, I thought it wasn't the worst idea I'd ever heard.

Yeah, it's so much fun to watch people using VR for the first time. I ordered the Oculus touch controllers, can't wait to try them.

Plenty of great informations. I love the interest they have in innovation rather than trying to compete with others. If i had enough money i'd buy a 3D printer at my house and build prototypes of crazy controllers and stuff :P

(It's also the interview in which Gabe say that they are working on 3 "full" games (not expriments like the lab), using both Source 2 and Unity and all the infos we learned recently.)
